Touching

My friend bought a new iPod, so I bought his old iPod nano from him.  It wasn't until a week later that I noticed the engraved message on the back of it.

"Merry Chistmas. Love, Mom and Dad."

If we're being honest

"She wears way too much make-up.  I mean, I don't see how she gets anything done with all the time she must spend putting on so much make-up."

"I guess, but she still satisfies my requirements for a one-night stand.  Tight little ass."

"Yeah okay, but she still wears too much make-up."

"Fine. She wears too much make-up."

"Thank you."

PinkRed Thursday

Leya's color week continues with Pink/Red Thursday...

I've never seen the interior of a tulip be blue before

Some art in my bedroom...I bought these paintings out of a vending machine filled with miniature paintings.  Seriously!  $5 each!

Like most of the other color week posters, I thought I hated orange.  But maybe I don't, because it's everywhere!

Color week gets a late start: Yellow Tuesday (plus belated Green Monday)

I was all ready to follow Leya's color week and start Monday off with green, and I took green photos yesterday and everything, but I failed to post. So today will be green and yellow day.

No sense of humor at all

One day last weekend I woke up with a painfully sore throat, and over the course of this week, the sore throat morphed into a deep cough accompanied by phlegm, sinus pressure, runny nose, and headaches. I can usually kick this kind of thing without going to the doctor, so I've been loaded up with vitamins and liquids (and the occasional dose of nyquil).

I was at the grocery store today restocking my stash of generic dayquil/nyquil, and I noticed Aleve Cold & Sinus. I remembered how much I used to swear by that stuff when I was sick, so I went to grab a box. Unfortunately, that's one of the drugs that you now have to get from behind the pharmacy counter, so I headed up there. They entered my driver's license number onto a form and plugged my data into a computer. I get it, I really do. War on drugs and all that. But my nose is all red, I'm hacking stuff up, and I sound like a duck. The pharmacy people could have at least laughed when I made a joke about cooking meth.

I think I'll start counting the days

I need to get out of academic administration because this world of rules not mattering and deadlines being irrelevant is killing me. College students get to do whatever they want, or not do whatever they want, and the administration acts like whatever they did or didn't do isn't their fault, just like their enabling parents taught them. It's ironic that I'm quitting my job to go to law school.

I took a half day yesterday, and coming back to work was painful today

Things that are cracking my shit up today: this, and this, and also the fact that I just typed into Google, "How many cough drops can I eat before their healing properties are negated by sugar content?"

I couldn't find an answer.

Pay Attention and Give a Shit

Words to live by that I am going to try harder to live by: Pay attention and give a shit.

Cracks me up: A Tired Teacher's Ideas for Classroom Projects

Also cracks me up: Toothpaste For Dinner

Seriously and totally cracks my shit up every time, but doesn't crack other people up when I tell them about it: Sausages!

Honesty is how you know I care

In a couple of days I'm flying out to visit a girlfriend who lives in Kansas. She works at a zoo in Wichita, and on Saturday I'm going to work with her to "volunteer" (pet as many exotic animals as I can in several hours. Hopefully it'll number somewhere in the hundreds). I've always been a compulsive list maker before I travel (thanks, mom!), and yesterday I began to think about the things I'll need to pack: eye mask and earplugs, jewelry, hair spray. I usually even make lists of what clothes I'll wear what day. She told me I'll need some khaki shorts and comfortable shoes for Saturday at the zoo, and it just hit me that in order to wear shorts in public, I'll have to shave my legs. I honestly could not tell you when I last shaved my legs. I'm sort of embarrassed about it when The Huz gets a look at my hairy legs, looks up at my face, looks at the legs, and then shrugs it off. But come on. There is a thick layer of ice coating my driveway, and my legs haven't seen the light of day in months. I think I just told the internet that my legs are hairy and blindingly white. Awesome.

A sure sign that things are not going well

I was nominated for an award at work, and my initial reaction was that someone is patronizing me.

It rains here every day

I'm in such a doom-and-gloom mood today that not even looking at recipes on the internet can cheer me up. And looking for new things to cook or bake always cheers me up. Excuse me while I go buy some vitamin D supplements. Sheesh. Winter.

And sometimes at other times of the day too

If I am nice in the morning, I am probably faking it.

Friday afternoon blues

I am DYING to leave work early so I can go home and read Harry Potter. How old am I, 12? I wish I could bring the book to work, but reading a book is not like screwing around on the internet. Both are getting paid to screw around, but one is much more likely to get caught.

Good things must come in threes, too.

So things have been going really well around here lately. First, the guy at the deli counter in the grocery store said I was the first person to pronounce this one brand of chicken correctly. Awesome, right? I know you're probably curious, so it was called "Aroastica." A-roast-ica. He marvelled at my command of the language.

Then a student at work who's from Tajikistan asked if I speak any Slavic languages because I have perfect pronunciation. She said that I am the only person she's met in the states that pronounced her name correctly, and it's even a difficult name for people in her own country to say. Take that, Tajiks.

And then The Huz said I eat more eggs than anyone he knows. So I totally won that contest. A couple of days after that he said I make the best eggs, too. He also suggested that I get my cholesterol checked, but whatever. I could eat 50 eggs.

It's becoming a problem

I cannot stop eating the gross, leftover, slightly peanut butter-flavored taffy that a coworker brought in from Halloween.

Random but necessary

If I had a dog, I would totally dress it up in outfits. I'd probably buy little sweaters and tu-tus and pleather jackets that say bitch or princess. But I don't have a dog because I hate it when the whole house has that dog stink. And I don't like being licked and jumped up on. And the unholy barking. And the freaking mess all over the house. And I don't like it when my hands smell disgusting after petting a dog for one minute. And the neeeeeeeeeediness. Huh-uh.

It's difficult not to become obsessed with the data. Ever since I plugged my blog into Google Analytics, I'm continually curious about how many people are visiting my site. Sometimes I even find myself checking all the stats, like how long the average viewer spends on my page. I did a little redesigning work to my blog last week, adding some features that I've wanted for a while, and now I find myself wanting to just hang around my own page because I like the way it looks. But it's totally fucking with my stats.

It's been a rough morning

It's amazing to me that someone (not me) will take the time to send multiple e-mails asking someone else (me) to do something instead of just doing it themselves. What's even more amazing is when the e-mails are sent from a computer that is approximately 15 feet away from my computer.
